*Greetings Mill Iron D Residents & Property Owners,

South Park Telephone (SPT) dba Highline is in the process of gathering data for the grant application and would like to include as much data as possible to substantiate a grant award for the project. I would appreciate if the residents conducted a speed test from their MID residence and document the results on the attached. I’ve included the speed test website within the attached, so use this Speed Test Link for consistency in results. Please encourage all MID residents to participate in the exercise, so as many members as possible can submit a commitment form. The parties that submitted a commitment form and payment are included on this message, please disregard if you are a property (lot) owner only and unable to test from a residence within MID or have already submitted a speed test.

You can submit the test results to Jacob Worthalter, by July 31st, 2022, so we compile the data and include with the grant application.

Don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions and thank you so much for the support!

Great news!

Highline Internet (South Park Telco (SPT)) has agreed to move forward with the grant process. We were able to get 67 households to commit (meaning they paid $200 to Highline) and this was over 70%.

If you still want to be part of the grant process (i.e. this includes infrastructure and installation to your home for fiber (FTTH), and you have not sent in your $200 to Highline, then please use this payment form (it's manual - you have to print, fill out, and mail to them with a check).

Thanks to everyone who attended last night's meeting and here are the recording of the video conference and slides:

We'll try to summarize the notes and update this page with details as the MID HOA fiber project gets under way.

Thanks to all who were able to attend and participate for SPT Highline's presentation regarding bringing fiber broadband Internet to Mill-Iron D.

Here are the slides from their presentation and the recording of the meeting (passcode for the recording: AWBx^6@4)

This is a great opportunity! The cost of connecting later (not at the initial buildout) will be significantly higher, based on terrain, anywhere from $1,500.00 to $3,000.00

Payments should be sent directly to South Park Telecom (SPT). Please fill out the form (click this link) and submit your $200.00 payment to SPT as soon as possible.

Fiber Initiative meeting 3/24/2022 @6pm - Look for this page to be updated after meeting w/updated information.

Meeting Notes (from residents' submitted questions/comments):

What

  • Fiber broadband to MID (FTTH – Fiber to the home)
  • Fiber to be buried completely to the home
  • $200 per home location required for commitment (75% of homes) – this will include installation of fiber to the home if grant is awarded. $200 is refunded if grant is not submitted or if grant fails (SPT sets up an escrow account for MID).
  • Monthly Internet Prices
    • 1 Gig/1 Gig Internet service $149.00
    • 100/100 Mbps $119.00
    • 55/55 Mbps $99.00
    • 25/25 Mbps $89.00
    • Equipment Fee (wi-fi router) $13.00 (required)
    • Static IP address $10.00
    • Voice service (VOIP) (unlimited local and long distance) $29.00
    • Upgrades / downgrades to services allowed with $10 change fee
  • No commitment/contract to Internet services is required (however, SPT / Highline Internet would be the only ISP available for subscription via fiber)
  • No limits/caps to data
  • No discounts for long-term subscription commitments
  • No rate increases since 2007
  • Service is only IPv4 capable but IPv6 currently being implemented (and available to customers Q3/Q4 this year) (not sure anything currently requires IPv6?)

Who

  • South Park Telephone (SPT) - Highline Internet
  • MID residents
  • SPT cannot provide information to MID about who has committed (i.e. sent in their payment of $200) other than total number of people (for privacy reasons). Residents can email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to help MID track status (thanks to those who have done so)

How

  • Gather interest and commitment (happening now)
    • SPT asking for approximately 75% commitment
    • This is not an exact number, and SPT has leeway on continuing even if commitment doesn’t meet the 75% threshold
  • SPT / Highline Internet writes and submits grant for MID (July 2022) if there is enough commitment to satisfy SPT / Highline Internet
    • Grant is for $500k, estimated at ~$5k per homeowner
  • Grant process and review take place
  • Grant appeal and decision take place
  • If grant succeeds, then SPT schedules project for MID

 When

  • $200 homeowner commitment due before 4/25/2022 in order for SPT to proceed with grant process
  • Grant submission July 15th, 2022
  • Next available submission date is January 15th , 2023
  • Fiber available for use in home, 9-12 months after grant approval (need verification of this timeframe from SPT)
    • 90-120 days for grant review process
    • 60 days to execute contract with State of Colorado to begin project
  • All of MID would be done in a single phase

Benefits

  • Faster Internet
  • Home value maintained or increases in value (other neighborhoods are already getting fiber: Friendship, Burland, Staunton Area giving their properties an advantage over those that do not have broadband Internet)

Other

  • If SPT / Highline Internet gets the grant and MID gets fiber, the cost of installation, for those who did not initially sign up / commit (happening now, for $200), increases to $1500-$3000

Alternatives

  • CenturyLink, DSL, currently available (speeds range from 3Mbps-20Mbps depending on location)
  • Starlink – not available for new subscriptions (over-subscribed and projected availability exceeds 2023)
  • DirectTV / DISH – expensive, slow (high-latency, low throughput, many VPN’s will not work), data limits / caps
  • Cell service not good enough for hot spot usage (most cell providers would cap/limit data)
  • Fixed wireless (requires LOS, over-subscribed (no new subscribers at this time?))

============================================================================

Dear Homeowners,

Exciting news regarding high speed fiber optic to the home!

We have an opportunity to apply for a grant to help offset most of the costs for fiber to the home (FTTH). While South Park Telephone (SPT) will be investing a considerable amount towards the build, the grant requires a minimal commitment from interested homeowners.

What is required to make this happen?

  • The effort requires 75% commitment from Mill Iron D Homeowners
  • This commitment requires a $200.00 one-time fee. The fee will be reimbursed if we do not get enough commitments or do not receive the grant.  With your paid commitment, South Park Telephone will waive all installation fees when the time comes to connect your home.
  • The approximate time of fiber availability is 9 to 12 months from grant submission depending on the grant appeals process.
  • We need a commitment and payment from homeowners no later than 4/25/2022

Monthly package prices:

1 Gig/1 Gig Internet service  $149.00
100/100 Mbps   $119.00
55/55 Mbps    $99.00
25/25 Mbps    $89.00
Equipment Fee (wi-fi router)    $13.00
Voice service (VOIP) (unlimited local and long distance)  $29.00

Why should I get fiber optic internet?

  • Your home will have its own DIRECT fiber line connection and that will increase your home value
  • Stable product with reliability - no lag times during peak times
  • Higher bandwidth (internet speed) - FASTER INTERNET!!!!
  • Stream movies, music, games, etc. with no interruptions or lag to service
  • Better WIFI connection to cameras and security systems
  • Ability to consolidate services (Voice service can use your same number, no need for landlines, satellite, etc…)

South Park Telephone is currently in the process of installing fiber in Burland Ranchettes.

The package rates are reasonable and competitive with current Fiber providers. Keep in mind, if your internet bill is lower now, you are paying for service that can lag or slow down often.

This is a great opportunity! The cost of connecting later (not at the initial built) will be significantly higher, based on terrain anywhere from $1,500.00 to $3,000.00

Payments should be sent directly to South Park Telecom (SPT). Please fill out the form (click this link) and submit your $200.00 payment to SPT as soon as possible.
